How to Increase Twitter Engagement With Images

The most common question about social media I get is, “how can I get my network to take notice, to share, and to interact with my posts?” It’s obvious that in order to have a successful social media campaign you need to post attractive content. Some of that content is about your industry or thing that you find interesting and some of that content is what you have created and want to share with your network. In order to stand out from the crowd and to get noticed by more of your followers, you should consider sharing an image with your tweet (a picture is worth a 100 words, right?). Let’s take a look how including an image with your tweet can help increase your visitors’ interactions which in turn leads to more followers and more shares.

What is an image enhanced tweet?

Simply put it is a tweet that is accompanied by a visually compelling image. The image is usually a call to action or a way of making your tweet stand out from the rest. Take a look at the following image, you will see one of our recent tweets accompanied by a visually interesting image.

As you can see, the tweet with the images is given a greater space than a purely textual tweet, and the image makes it stand out even more. Being able to stand out will increase the likelihood that your tweet is clicked, shared, and favorited.

How can I add an image to my tweet?

Simple, when creating a post on twitter you will notice a little camera in the lower left corner of the composer. When clicked, you will be able to upload a photo that will accompany your post.

Some best practices to follow when uploading a photo:

  1. Make sure your content is centered in the photo.
  2. Use a wide formatted image that isn’t too tall. This will keep your image from getting cropped. We recommend 720px wide by 270px tall.
  3. Don’t just post a photo, make it a call to action.

Compared to simple text tweets, we see about 20% better engagement across each twitter metric (Impressions / Engagements). So don’t let your Twitter account fall by the wayside, be sure to post compelling content that is visually interesting. Over time you will start to see gains in engagements, and followers.
